About OurTradeDesk
We ARE VERY SELECTIVE! We look for stocks that have the potential to double in 6 to 18 months. We do not recommend a lot of stocks throughout the year. We try to choose moments we believe offer the best potential setup. At times, we will buy a particular investment at several different prices before it makes the big move we are always looking for. Multiple-entry buy recommendations reflect a methodical approach—entering a 6-month to 18 month play and taking advantage of price compression when the setup improves. We are not chasing; we are building. This is how asymmetric returns are made.
OurTradeDesk is a financial content platform (a Nevada corporation) run by Johnny A, a market veteran with decades of experience. We provide stock market insights and education through a candid, no-nonsense approach. Important: We are not registered investment advisors, brokers, or fiduciaries – all content is for informational and educational purposes only. Our mission is to empower you with knowledge, keep your emotions in check, and maybe even make you laugh along the way.
What We Do
OurTradeDesk offers a range of services designed to inform, educate, and inspire investors:
- Newsletter: A premium stock newsletter featuring our buy recommendations and market analysis. We hunt for stocks with the potential to rise significantly – whether it’s a high-growth tech play or a beaten-down turnaround story – the bottom line is we look for stocks “that can make us money”. We typically issue buy calls on promising stocks and only issue sell recommendations when unexpected developments undermine our original thesis (more on this below). We do not provide price targets (more on that later), because the market, not us, ultimately decides a stock’s price. [SUBSCRIPTION DISCLAIMER: By subscribing to our newsletter, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to all disclaimers and terms of service. We may own positions in recommended stocks and will always disclose ownership.] Each newsletter issue clearly discloses any stock positions we hold. We often buy stocks around the time of recommending them and may sell at any time without notice, so our interests might not always align with yours. All buy recommendations reflect our opinion at the time of writing; market conditions can change rapidly, so do your own due diligence before acting.
- Tidbits (Real-Time Text Alerts): Bite-sized, real-time stock and market updates delivered via text message. These “tidbits” keep you informed of current market conditions (both positive and negative) and help remove emotion from your decision-making. We might alert you about today’s market outlook, a significant move in a stock we follow, or an upcoming event – all in plain English, right to your phone. Our goal is to educate you and neutralize emotional reactions by explaining why the market is doing what it’s doing (since emotional decisions are often the wrong ones). We believe the most money is made by buying at the right time, not by chasing stocks impulsively. [TEXT ALERT DISCLAIMER: Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel. Alerts may include stocks we own.] [REAL-TIME DISCLAIMER: Market conditions change rapidly. By the time you receive and act on information, conditions may have changed substantially.]
- Johnny A’s “Talking Heads” Podcast: An entertaining and educational podcast where we call out the nonsense in financial media. Each episode, we pick apart what some journalist or TV pundit said – especially the fear-mongering or hype – and explain why it might be misleading or just plain wrong, often with a dose of humor. We shine a light on how media narratives can instill fear and greed, potentially leading investors to make bad decisions, and we have a few laughs along the way. (For entertainment and informational purposes only – opinions are those of the hosts and do not constitute investment advice. And yes, we may talk about stocks we own.)
- Inspire: Daily or weekly inspirational messaging to keep you motivated. Our motto: “Don’t dream what you want to do – do what you dream.” We believe life is about memories, not dreams, and there’s always room to create another great memory. Successful investing is part of building the life you want to live. In short, we encourage you to stop merely dreaming and start doing, whether in investing or any aspect of life
- Market Education: Comprehensive educational content (articles, tutorials, and more) to help you understand market dynamics and become a more informed investor. We break down financial concepts and market phenomena in plain language so you can navigate the market’s ups and downs with confidence. The goal is to turn complex market topics into actionable knowledge you can use.
Our Investment Philosophy: Ride the Winners But Take Profits, Cut the Losers
We pride ourselves on a straightforward investment philosophy: ride the winners but take profits and cut your losers when the unexpected happens. We do not tell you when to take profits on a winning stock. (remember pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered! It’s always best to be the surviving pig, than the slaughtered hog.) When it comes to winners, “you decide when enough profit is enough” – not us. All decisions on selling or holding a rising stock are solely your responsibility as the investor.
On the flip side, we will issue a sell alert if something unexpected happens that fundamentally undermines our reason for owning the stock. In other words, we sell when the original investment thesis breaks. What counts as “something unexpected”? The following are a few few examples but is by no means limited to the following:
- Fundamental deterioration in the business (the company’s prospects worsen significantly)
- Management fraud or malfeasance (if the company’s leaders betray shareholders’ trust)
- Regulatory actions that materially damage the business model
- Dramatic competitive shifts that threaten the company’s edge
- Any event that fundamentally breaks our original reason for buying
What doesn’t automatically trigger a sell on our end? Normal ups and downs. We don’t panic over routine volatility or short-term price swings. We also don’t sell just because some analyst downgraded the stock or the financial media is screaming doom and gloom. We’re in it for the long haul, and we’ve done our homework on these companies. We won’t celebrate every spike or flee at every dip – we stay focused on the big picture. In summary, ordinary market noise, temporary setbacks, or media-driven fear won’t shake us out of a position. But if the facts change materially, we’ll act decisively.
Why We Never Give Price Targets (They’re BS)
We refuse to provide price targets on stocks – and we’ll be blunt about why. Price targets are usually nothing more than educated guesses (often not even that educated) that Wall Street analysts use to sound authoritative. You’ve heard them: “This stock will be $50 by year-end!” – it’s fantasy dressed up as analysis. Here’s our take on price targets and why we think they’re BS:
- The market sets prices, period. Not analysts, not newsletters, and not even a company’s fundamentals in the short term. Any target price we might throw out is irrelevant because the real world will do what it does. Technology has changed the market tremendously over the past 20 years.
- Price targets create false anchors. These arbitrary numbers mess with your psychology and can lead to poor decisions – you might hang on too long waiting for a target, or sell too soon because a target was hit.
- They’re usually wrong. Seriously, go back and track analysts’ targets for a year – you’ll be underwhelmed by how rarely those targets are met. Most are way off the mark, and following them can be a recipe for disappointment.
- They encourage fear or complacent thinking. Chasing target prices promotes a trading mentality. Real wealth is built over time. Show me a stock that will double in a year and I will buy it every day. Day trading often leads to a ticket to nowhere. Look at the statistics.
Instead of peddling false precision, we focus on finding opportunities and then letting the market do its thing. No arbitrary target numbers, no pretend crystal ball – just honest analysis. Bottom line: WE DON’T SET PRICE TARGETS! When a stock is climbing, you decide when to take your profit. We’ll let you know if our mind changes, but we won’t tell you when to sell just because the stock went up.
Our Opinion of Price Targets and Day Trading is like the song “A Thousand miles from Nowhere”
I’ve got bruises on my memory
I’ve got tear stains on my hands
And in the mirror there’s a vision
Of what used to be a man
Ownership & Conflicts of Interest
Transparency is key: We often own the same stocks we recommend in the newsletter, and we always disclose our ownership. In fact, we usually buy shares around the time it goes on our buy list, We buy stocks we truly believe in. If you have no skin in the game? Then how much can you really believe in the stock — and how much do you honestly know? We might also use certain strategies like writing covered call options on stocks we own (which could result in our shares being called away), and if we personally sell a stock we’ve been holding, we will disclose that in the newsletter.
That said, you should assume we have a financial interest in any stock we mention – our ownership creates an inherent conflict of interest. We stand to benefit if the stock price rises after our recommendation, and our investment goals may not be the same as yours. We are not obligated to announce every trade we make (i.e. when we buy more or decide to sell), though as noted, we will always tell you if we currently hold a stock at the time we publish our initial buy. Consider this Conflict of Interest warning: our opinions are our own, but they aren’t unbiased – we’re literally “talking our book” when we discuss stocks we own. Please take that into account when you read our analysis.
Who Is Johnny A?
Johnny A is the founder and voice of OurTradeDesk. Who is he, and why should you trust him? Johnny got his start in the financial world back in the 1980’s, when he earned his brokerage license. He has a formal background in business and economics, but, as he’ll be the first to tell you, textbook knowledge isn’t the same as understanding how markets really work. By 1990, Johnny was running his own brokerage office (an OSJ, for those in the know), hosting a financial radio show and later writing a stock newsletter. In short, he’s been around the block – he’s seen bull markets, bear markets, and everything in between.
After stepping away from the industry for a while, Johnny is now “back in the saddle,” inspired in part by his son’s enthusiasm for investing. His son, an active member of the meme-stock community, sparked Johnny’s return to sharing his insights and reignited his passion for educating others. One thing you’ll notice about Johnny: he doesn’t pull punches. He’s quick to call out fear-mongering in financial media and expose hype and nonsense for what it is. He’s traded in the fancy suit and tie for a T-shirt and sneakers, embracing a more genuine approach focused on teaching, entertaining, and telling the unvarnished truth. With Johnny A, what you see is what you get – a seasoned market pro who’d rather give it to you straight (with a bit of humor) than sugarcoat the realities of investing.
About Me – The Full Story (From Johnny A himself)
To my dearest daughter and son,
You know me better than anyone, so you’ll recognize the tone here. This comes from a man who’s made plenty of mistakes – and learned from every one of them. My name and my story aren’t a pristine résumé; they’re the scars and triumphs of a life lived fully. Critics? They’ll always have something to say, but I’ve learned that people who spread hate are usually just wrestling with their own shadows – they’re not really fighting you.
I came into this world in a humble Pennsylvania town. Grandma worked as a nurse, tending to the sick, and Grandpa kept the local factory running. I left home with a degree in business and economics, chasing warmer weather and bigger dreams in Florida. In the 80’s I jumped headfirst into the brokerage world, and by 1990 I’d carved out my own little corner of it – running my own office and hosting a radio show about the market and stocks. Around that time, I met your mom in Pennsylvania, though she had been living in Hawaii. It took months to convince her to move to Florida with me. She became the brightest star in my sky, and after a few years we moved our lives—and my business—from Florida to Arizona, believing it would be the perfect place to raise children who would grow up strong and happy.
But life isn’t all sunshine and smooth sailing. I struggled with severe allergies as a child, and those issues followed me into adulthood until they turned into chronic sinus problems. (sinusitis) I won’t sugarcoat this part: a doctor put me on OxyContin for the pain – bad call, in hindsight. I developed an addiction and, along with it, made some of the worst decisions of my life. I even ended up getting arrested, something I never imagined would happen to me. While I was sitting in a cold cell, fate threw me another curveball: I had a heart attack that went untreated for far too long, (about 2 weeks) until I nearly drowned in pneumonia. I was at death’s door, and it was only dumb luck (and a stubborn prison nurse who finally paid attention) that pulled me back.
In that jail cell, I made a promise to both of you – a promise to rebuild our lives, to clean up the mess I’d made, and to earn back the trust that I had broken. The road back wasn’t quick and it sure as hell wasn’t easy, but every painful step was taken with you in mind
This website – this whole second chapter of my life – exists because of you two. It was your brother who nudged me back into the game, and it’s dedicated to both of you. Be thankful to your incredible mother (the brilliant woman who gave me my greatest gifts). My hope is that this venture serves not just us, but anyone out there who’s determined to turn their hardships into opportunities.
All my love (and a little attitude, as always),
Dad
P.S. There’s always room in our hearts to create – and cherish – another beautiful memory. Never forget that.
Dedicated to Truth!
The plain truth is that the financial world is a tough place to find honesty. What drives the headlines you read and the breaking news you see on TV? Two things: FEAR and GREED. Sensationalism sells. Many so-called financial “news” outlets are really just storytellers peddling fear to keep you glued to the screen. Most of the talking heads in the media are journalists or pundits whose job is to generate buzz, not to make you money. The financial world preys on your fears and takes advantage of greed and ignorance – that’s the harsh reality.
Let’s face it, investing can be an emotional rollercoaster. Big highs, crushing lows. Our goal at OurTradeDesk is to help you navigate those ups and downs by teaching you what’s really going on behind the scenes. When you understand why a stock is moving or why the market had a meltdown on some piece of news, it neutralizes the fear. Knowledge is the antidote to emotional investing. We aim to replace knee-jerk reactions with rational understanding. So check your ego at the door, put on some deep-pocketed jeans (for all the Benjamins you just might earn), and get comfy – we’re about to turn the investment world upside down with the truth.
Your days of fear and intimidation are over. Johnny A is here to serve you, inspire you, educate you, and yes, keep you laughing while you learn. Through our Talking Heads podcast and every other channel, we’ll be breaking down how the financial media spins narratives to scare or manipulate you. We promise to call out the BS and have some fun along the way. After all, what’s better than learning and laughing all the way to the bank?
